How You Watch Matters

My son Will likes to nicely talk about the wisdom of the 70 over 70 crowd.  There comes a season in life where really all you can do is “watch”.

Even then, “every message you send is still received.::))

In the past 20 years of the Keepers of the Sandlot effort, we have addressed the four traditional roles that are present at youth sporting events.  There are signs that say, “pick one…player, parent, coach or umpire”.

These gentle reminders  “move the needle” to help us all to relax and enjoy the game

Let me now add a couple, at 70ish…

Grandparent and Watcher.

As a grandparent nearly every message is easier to send. Facial expressions and grumbling do count::)). Gotta be careful!!

Cheering is easy

Silence is good also

A smile is a great message

Clapping is great exercise

Rocking lawn chairs are gold

Expressing appreciation for every child, great plays by either team and any effort is easily appreciated by a grandparent.

Maybe this is what Will is talking about.

I think it was Flip Wilson, the great comedian, when asked if he had to do it all over again, would he do anything different.  He said, “even if I did have a chance to do it over, I don’t think I would have the energy to do it”. Amen to that.

I love the “comments” section on LinkedIn.

Everybody gets to add their thoughts.  Whether it’s about work or play, employees at work or kids at play, everyone usually has a pretty good contribution.

So here’s mine about my own blog::))

“Remember this.  Everyone is watching you.  Actions usually speak louder than words.  Not really a new thought”

As a parent, coach, leader or grandparent, remember,

How you watch matters.

And watching your grandkids do almost anything….makes “70” easier.
